Professor Opoku Agyemang extols GJA to represent Journalists with integrity.

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity as they steer the country’s media landscape through increasingly complex times.

Speaking at the Swearing-in Ceremony of new executives of the GJA, the Vice President spoke of the exigencies of the times given the multiple challenges that are confronted the media ecosystem, drawing attention to the need for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), to chart the path in ensuring that freedom of speech is maintained while eliminating the excesses that go a long way to undermine Ghana’s democratic credentials.

”At a time when misinformation is rampant and public trust is often strained, the GJA must rise as the standard-bearer — a reliable source of truth that supports national development and informs sound policy decisions,” she emphasized.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further encouraged the executives to embrace the weight of legacy, urging them to lead in ways that will uplift the Association, empower journalists across the country, and shape a resilient and responsible media for Ghana’s future.

The Vice -President, was accompanied by the Chief of Staff at the Vice Presidency, Dr. Alex Segbefia.

At the ceremony in Accra, on July 11, 2025, the Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie administered the Oaths of Office.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour was sworn in as the President of the GJA, Rebecca Ekpe, Vice-President of the GJA, Dominic Hlodzi, General Secretary, Sulemana Mustapha, Organizing Secretary, Bertha Badu-Agyei, Treasurer and Zadock Kwame Gyasi as Public Affairs Officer.
