Vice President Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is First Female of Ghana Armed Forces Council. Today, March 24, President John Dramani Mahama swore in the newly constituted Ghana Armed Forces Council, at the Ministry of Defence where the President charged the Council to leverage its collective experience and integrity to make the critical decisions that uphold national security and stability.
In response Chairperson the Council, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang assured the President of the Council’s commitment to fulfilling its advisory mandate.
She thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them urging the Ghana Armed Forces to continue to discharge their duties with professionalism and patriotism, particularly in the face of pressing security challenges, including the scourge of illegal mining, terrorism threats, and transnational crimes.
”There is a need for resolute action and a national effort to combat these destabilizing activities. I call on the Armed Forces to remain vigilant and uncompromising in safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty”.
Additionally, the Vice President commended the exceptional capabilities of the forces and encouraged their active role in supporting the government’s 24-hour economy policy to drive sustainable development.
” I pay tribute to past members of the Council and all retired service personnel for the invaluable contributions, unwavering commitment, and sacrifices that have preserved Ghana’s long-standing peace and security”, she noted.
As Chairperson, of the Ghana Armed Forces Council, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang reaffirmed the resolve to build on ”this legacy and ensure the Armed Forces remain a strong pillar of our nation”.
