The attire sparked widespread online debate after being described as a blouse, a moment Mahama said ultimately helped bring global focus to Ghanaian culture.
He noted that the renewed interest could create economic opportunities for local artisans, particularly smock weavers. Mahama added that the fugu could eventually be developed into an export product, promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage while supporting the country’s growing fashion industry.
