President John Dramani Mahama has warned Ghanaians that individuals who engage in hate speech on social media will face arrest.
Addressing citizens during a public engagement, President Mahama stressed that his administration will not tolerate the spread of divisive or inflammatory content online, as such behavior threatens national peace and unity.
“You will be arrested if you are involved in hate speech on social media,” the President declared, urging the public to use digital platforms responsibly.
He noted that while social media is an important avenue for free expression and participation in governance, it must not be abused to incite violence, propagate misinformation, or fuel ethnic and political tensions.
The President assured that law enforcement agencies have been tasked to monitor and deal decisively with offenders, particularly as Ghana approaches the 2025 general elections.
Mahama’s warning aligns with recent calls by security analysts and civil society groups for stricter measures to curb hate speech and safeguard Ghana’s democratic stability.
