President John Mahama is expected to address the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

President Mahama and his delegation arrived in the US to a hearty welcome by the Ghanaian Community in New York City.

President Mahama has already launched ‘The Accra Reset: Reimagining Global Governance for Health and Development” in New York, United States, in a significant initiative that is expected to introduce a bold and actionable framework designed to fundamentally transform the global governance architecture, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose in a turbulent, post-SDG era.

President Mahama will also take part in key side events in his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions. According to the presidency, he will host two major sessions focused on Africa’s economic and institutional development.

His programme in New York also includes bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, several heads of state, and other global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.

President Mahama is expected to engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and will also make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he is scheduled to ring the closing bell.

In the meantime, the First Lady Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama has been busy with events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). She also gave a speech at a special World Vision International prayer service dedicated to the world’s children.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres opened the session by warning that the world is in “turbulent—even uncharted—waters” and that “geopolitical divides [are] widening.” In this context, the speeches by Mahama and Trump were more than rhetorical flourishes; they were direct responses to a world in crisis, each proposing a fundamentally different path forward.
