The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has inaugurated its new National Executive following elections held on June 10, 2025, signaling a renewed commitment to timely governance, professional integrity, and the advancement of press freedom in Ghana.
The swearing-in ceremony, held in Accra, was attended by dignitaries including the Vice President of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
The new Executives are; President Albert Dwumfour, Vice President, Rebecca Ekpe , General Secretary, Dominic Hlordzi, Organizing Secretary, Sulemana Mustapha, Treasurer Bertha Badu Agyei , Public Affairs Officer, Zadok Kwame Gyesi.
In his address, the new GJA President, Albert Dumfour, underscored the association’s commitment to consolidating gains made in recent years while advancing the welfare and security of journalists across the country. The President also highlighted the association’s resolve to maintain discipline within its ranks, particularly after past challenges that delayed elections and strained institutional trust.
“Your presence here is a testament to the importance of unity and accountability in building a vibrant media landscape,” the President said, while urging stakeholders and government representatives to uphold justice and freedom of expression in Ghana.
Recognition was given to the GJA Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee, chaired by lawyer and lecturer Zakaria Tanko Musa, as well as the Elections Committee Chaired by Peter Agbeko.
The GJA also acknowledged the support of partners.
As the new executive begins its three-year mandate, the GJA pledged to focus on protecting press freedom, enhancing the welfare of journalists, and advocating for a conducive environment for media practice in Ghana.
“We are committed to deepening professional standards and ensuring that the association remains a strong voice for journalists and press freedom in Ghana,” the President affirmed, calling on members to support the new leadership in advancing the association’s goals.
