Nana Romeo Calls for Ban on X in Ghana Over Pornographic Content Concerns

By Vivian Amoah
Popular radio presenter Nana Romeo of Okay 101.7 FM has sparked controversy and public debate after calling for the immediate ban of the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) in Ghana. His call follows growing concerns about the increasing volume of pornographic and sexually explicit content circulating on the platform, which he says is having a corrupting influence on Ghanaian youth.
In a statement aired on Okay FM and later posted on social media, Nana Romeo expressed deep frustration over what he described as X turning into “a porn hub,” arguing that the platform no longer serves its original purpose as a space for meaningful dialogue and information sharing.
“We cannot sit back and watch social media destroy the moral fabric of our society,” he said. “X is no longer safe,it’s turning social media into a porn hub, and our youth are the most vulnerable.”
Nana Romeo’s comments quickly went viral, with hashtags such as #BanXNow, #SocialMediaCrisis, and #NanaRomeoCallsItOut trending on various platforms. His remarks have received mixed reactions from the public some supporting his stance and calling for stricter content regulation, while others argue that a full ban would infringe on digital freedom and expression.
He further emphasized the need for government intervention and a review of Ghana’s digital content policies. According to him, the lack of effective content moderation on X is allowing the unchecked spread of pornographic material, which he fears could normalize harmful behavior among impressionable users.
“Parents are worried, educators are concerned, and leaders should act. If the platform cannot regulate itself, maybe we need to consider regulation or even removal,” he added.
Nana Romeo’s call for a ban adds to the growing discourse around digital safety and online morality in Ghana. It also reignites broader conversations about the responsibilities of tech companies and governments in regulating content on social platforms without violating freedom of speech.
