The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting press freedom and strengthening collaboration with the media, during the launch and inauguration of the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on October 9th,2025
Delivering his address on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister conveyed the President’s felicitations to the GJA, describing him as “perhaps the most media-friendly president” who continues to defend the rights and freedoms of journalists. He announced that the President has expressed interest in attending this year’s awards, which for the first time will be hosted in Kumasi, a move aimed at broadening representation beyond Accra.
The Minister commended the GJA for sustaining the awards over the years, describing the event as “the most sought after within the journalistic fraternity” and a platform that motivates excellence in media practice.
“As Minister for Government Communications, I have an open-door policy. You can walk in at any time to share suggestions on how the government can improve its relations with the media,” he said.
He commended the GJA’s decision to introduce innovations to this year’s awards and officially declared the 29th GJA Media Awards launched. He also inaugurated the planning committee tasked with organizing the event, promising government’s full support to make it a memorable celebration of journalistic excellence.
