The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has commended journalists for their critical role in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, urging them to continue upholding professionalism and ethical standards in their work.
He made these remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, July 12, 2025.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that the government values the media’s contributions to national development and will continue to engage with the GJA to address challenges facing journalists, including safety and welfare concerns.
“Government recognizes the media’s role in promoting accountability and transparency, and we will work with the GJA to strengthen press freedom while encouraging responsible journalism in the country,” he said.
The newly sworn-in GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour pledged to prioritize the welfare of journalists, enhance capacity building within the media industry, and advocate for policies that will promote a safer and more enabling environment for media practice in Ghana.
The swearing-in ceremony marks the start of a new chapter for the GJA, as the leadership begins its mandate to address key issues in the media landscape, including fighting misinformation, advocating for media reforms, and improving conditions for journalists in Ghana.
