President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Government's economic flagship programme, the Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+).

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his promise to strengthen governance and accountability.

A statement issued by the President said the President met with civil society organisations to discuss the establishment of the Governance Advisory Council – a key commitment from his 2024 campaign.

It said such a Council would serve as an independent watchdog, advising the Government on critical issues such as human rights, corruption, and governance.

“This council is a commitment to the Ghanaian people, a promise to foster a more transparent and accountable government,” President Mahama said.

The said statement said the Council would comprise diverse voices from civil society, religious leaders, traditional authorities, academia, labour, and ordinary Ghanaians.

It noted that the Council would produce an annual, publicly accessible report on the state of human rights, corruption, and governance in Ghana.

It said Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor for Governmental Affairs, would lead the government’s efforts in establishing this vital Council.
