A Landmark Exhibition on the ECOWAS Regional Integration Project hosted at the UN headquarters in New York, United States of America by the ECOWAS Permanent Observer Mission and the ECOWAS Group at the United Nations ended on Friday 5th of December 2025.
The 10 Day Exhibition, a first for ECOWAS at the United Nations, presented on the Theme “ECOWAS @50: Stronger together for a Brighter Future: Celebrating 50 Years of Strength, Resilience and Progress”. THE Flagship Exhibition served as the Finale of a 3-Fold High Level ECOWAS Event at the UN on Governance, Peace, and Development in West Africa organized by ECOWAS Group and Partners to commemorate the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee at International Level.
The Signature Event which attracted a wide International audience including UN Officials, Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the UN, Civil Society and Partners was opened by the UN Assistant Secretary General for Africa Ms Martha A Pobee on 25th November 2025. Statements at the Event were also delivered by the ECOWAS Permanent Observer to the UN Amb, Kinza Jawara-Njai and Chair of the ECOWAS Group, Permanent Representative of S.Leone to the UN, Amb. Michael Imran Kanu.
The auspicious occasion afforded ECOWAS and Partners the opportunity to celebrate the Legacy of the ECOWAS Founding Fathers and the gains of 5 Decades of regional Cooperation, Integration and Development in West Africa. It also provided a Platform for Visibility and Information dissemination on ECOWAS’ Political and Economic Integration Agenda over the years. showcasing key gains, challenges, and opportunities in promoting Regionalism, Peace, and Security, Good Governance and Sustainable Development in the Region.
The Visual collage presented ECOWAS’ Mission, Vision, Strategic Objectives and development Interventions and highlighted Flagship achievements in the areas of Free Movement and Trade, Infrastructural development, Governance and Institutional Building, Gender Inclusion and Human development among others. The Visual interactive display also captured challenges confronting the region particularly in Governance, Peace and Security and efforts geared towards addressing the challenges and building a brighter and prosperous future of shared prosperity for all within a strong political and economic union.
UN Diplomats and International Partners including Ambassadors from the AES Countries to the UN who also joined the celebration of the milestone achievements of which they have been a part of and the African Union Permanent Observer to the UN, Amb. Mohamed Edrees as well as West Africans in the Diaspora who attended the Event joined the Guided Tour of the Exhibition and lauded the Achievements registered by ECOWAS in five Decades and the role it continues to play in safeguarding peace and enhancing development in West Africa. The ECOWAS @50 Expose at International Level came to a firing close with a Family Cocktail reception and West African Musical Display celebrating Solidarity, Peace and development in West Africa.
