Land preparation has begun for the construction of a modern 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The project is expected to replace the hospital’s existing and increasingly dilapidated Maternity Unit, which has served as a major referral centre for maternal and child healthcare over the years.
The new facility is planned to provide a modern and expanded environment for the delivery of maternal, neonatal and child healthcare services, while improving the capacity of Korle Bu to respond to the growing demand for specialised care.
The commencement of land preparation marks an important early step towards the construction of the facility, which is expected to be equipped with modern infrastructure and medical facilities.
The project is also expected to improve the working environment for healthcare professionals and enhance the quality of care available to mothers, newborns and children referred to the country’s premier teaching hospital.
Once completed and operational, the 400-bed Mother and Child Block is expected to significantly expand Korle Bu’s capacity for maternal and child healthcare and provide a more suitable replacement for the existing maternity infrastructure.
The development forms part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve maternal and child health services in Ghana.
