I joined colleagues at the Presidency to celebrate International Women’s Day, observed under the theme “From Commitment to Action: Promoting Equity for Every Woman in the Workplace.” It was a moment to honor women’s achievements and reflect on the progress still needed to advance gender equity in our society.

Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joins in celebration of International Women’s Day at Presidency.Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has extended warm wishes to women across Ghana and emphasized that throughout history, women have always played central roles in our communities and economies. From healers and traders to queen mothers who presided over traditional governance systems, our cultural heritage demonstrates that women have long contributed knowledge, leadership, and innovation.
She said, ”when we observe present-day disparities, it is important to critically examine where systems and structures may have fallen short and work collectively to address them. Advancing gender equity, therefore, requires conscious action and mentorship of the next generation of women”.
While acknowledging the women within our offices and institutions, we must also recognize the many women whose “offices” are found in our markets, streets, and small trading spaces across the country. These women form the backbone of our local economies and demonstrate remarkable resilience every day despite difficult conditions.
She commended the women working within the Presidency for their dedication and leadership, and reaffirmed that promoting equity, respect, and opportunity for every woman remains essential to strengthening governance and driving sustainable growth.
The Vice President also called on men and women to unite to break barriers and ensure every woman has the chance to thrive and fully contribute to our nation’s development.
