The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) elections have officially ended, with executives, candidates, and supporters gathered at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra, awaiting the declaration of results.
Officials of the GJA Electoral Committee are currently collating the ballots from various polling stations across the country. The committee has assured members that the collation process is progressing smoothly and that certified results will be announced shortly.
This year’s elections have witnessed a keen contest for key positions including the presidency, vice-presidency, general secretary, and regional leadership roles within the association. The elections are seen as critical for the future direction of the GJA, particularly as the association works to strengthen press freedom and improve the welfare of journalists in Ghana.
Supporters of various candidates have filled the Press Centre, some monitoring the collation closely while others engage in quiet discussions about the voting process and the likely outcome. Security is present at the venue to maintain order as the collation continues.
Some journalists expressed optimism about the election process. “We are eager to see the results and to begin the next phase of strengthening the association,” one member said.
The elections were conducted earlier today across designated polling centers nationwide, with many members turning up to cast their votes despite challenges such as delays in the start of voting in some areas.
The GJA Elections Committee is expected to address the media and members immediately after the collation to officially declare the winners of the elections, paving the way for the swearing-in of new executives who will steer the affairs of the association for the next term.
