The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shown solidarity with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, led a delegation to the NDC headquarters in Accra to express condolences to the party and President John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP leadership distanced itself from certain unpleasant comments made by individuals claiming to be NPP sympathizers regarding the crash, describing those comments as “unfortunate and condemnable.”

“These comments are not healthy for our democracy and even you will not wish death for your worst enemy. We  apologise for any unpleasant remarks coming from our side,” Mr Frimpong Kodua added.

The NPP has consistently called for a thorough, transparent, and swift investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure accountability.

The party urged Ghanaians to unite in prayer and support for the bereaved families, emphasizing the loss as a profound blow to the entire nation.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the NPP for commiserating with the Party.

He jokingly remarked that the NDC would take part in the upcoming Akwatia by-elections, which drew laughter from the gathering.

He, however, called for non-violent electoral process, urging both parties to talk to their supporters to ensure a peaceful election.

President Mahama declared three days of national mourning, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast.

A multi-agency investigation led by the Ghana Armed Forces is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
