The Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Rebecca Ekpe, on Saturday Febrary 28, 2026 joined family, friends, and members of the media fraternity at the Christ the King Parish to bid a solemn farewell to Gloria Kafui Hiadzi, former Executive Secretary of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

The requiem mass, held in a reflective and prayerful atmosphere, drew leading media practitioners, broadcasters, and representatives from various institutions who had worked closely with the late Hiadzi during her years of service.

A Pillar in Ghana’s Broadcasting Landscape

Gloria Hiadzi was remembered as a dedicated administrator and advocate for independent broadcasting in Ghana. As Executive Secretary of GIBA, she played a pivotal role in strengthening collaboration among private radio and television stations and advancing professional standards within the industry.

Delivering brief remarks after the service, Rebecca Ekpe described the late Hiadzi as a committed media professional whose work quietly shaped Ghana’s broadcasting ecosystem.

“Gloria Hiadzi was not always in front of the microphone, but her influence was deeply felt behind the scenes. She worked diligently to strengthen independent broadcasting and to ensure that media institutions operated within ethical and professional frameworks,” she said.

A Life of Service and Quiet Impact

Madam Ekpe noted that the late Executive Secretary’s contribution to Ghana’s media development often went unnoticed by the general public but was highly valued within industry circles.

“Her dedication, humility, and institutional memory were invaluable. She served with integrity and remained passionate about the growth of private broadcasting in Ghana,” she added.

She further extended condolences on behalf of the GJA to the bereaved family, the leadership of GIBA, and the broader broadcasting community.

United in Grief

The ceremony at Christ the King Parish brought together colleagues across media associations, highlighting the unity within Ghana’s media fraternity during moments of loss. Hymns, scripture readings, and tributes painted a portrait of a woman devoted to service, professionalism, and faith.

For many attendees, the gathering was not only a farewell but also a moment of reflection on the importance of institutional leadership within the media sector.

As the final prayers were said and mourners filed out of the church, the legacy of Gloria Hiadzi was evident in the respect and affection expressed by those whose professional journeys she had influenced.

Rebecca Ekpe urged media professionals to honour her memory by continuing to uphold ethical standards and strengthening collaboration within the industry.

“The best way to honour her is to continue the work, to build a media landscape that is responsible, united, and committed to national development.”
