GJA PAO lauds reactivation of Regional Police Comms

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, recently reactivated the Police Regional Communications Units to foster better coordination and information sharing among regional police units.

The move by the IGP represents a shift from the previous system where information from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) was centralized at its headquarters. Mr. Yohuno made the announcement at the opening of a three-day workshop for public affairs officers at the Detective Training Academy in Accra to discuss ways to strengthen the Public Affairs arm of the Ghana Police Service,” he said.

The Media sought reactions of the recent activities by the Ghana Police Service from the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, Public Affairs Officer, Rebecca Ekpe. She described the move as welcome news, saying the ‘’Centralization of information’’ then was quite problematic.

‘’We got a lot of calls and reports from Journalists in the Regions on the situation and we engaged with Police and got a little breakthrough, but it did not last quite long’’, she noted in an interview with Citinews.

Madam Ekpe said the reactivation of Police Public Affairs Units in the Regions would facilitate free flow of information, it would also contribute to eliminating fake news and suspicion and rather promote civil discourse among the citizenry, ‘’because the information would be provided to the grassroots in the regions, representing a bottom-up approach, which is integral to development’’.

She admonished the Journalists not to abuse the cordial relationship with the Police PRs, instead remain professional and respect all sources.

Madam Ekpe also spoke with Ho 92.5 FM.
