The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) national executive elections have officially ended at various designated centers across the country, with provisional results beginning to emerge.
In the Bono Region, 27 registered journalists cast their votes at the Regional Electoral Commission office. Voting was conducted smoothly, with all candidates for the regional positions running unopposed. The exercise was focused on electing national executive officers to steer the affairs of the Association in the coming years.
Similarly, the Northern Region saw a smooth voting process, with 14 delegates participating in the elections. Twelve of the delegates were from the Northern Region, while two represented the Northeast Region. Voting commenced early in the morning and ended peacefully without any incidents.
Fatima Kanton, an election official at the GBC voting center in the Northern Region, expressed satisfaction with the process, describing the turnout as encouraging.
“So far, so good. Everything has been smooth. As of 9:10 a.m., eight out of 14 delegates had already voted,” she noted.
Counting of ballots began shortly after voting ended, with initial results confirming the victory of candidates who were running unopposed in the Bono and Northern Regions. The elections form part of the Association’s efforts to renew its leadership and strengthen its commitment to promoting press freedom, professional standards, and the welfare of journalists across the country.
Nationally, the elections are being closely monitored by journalists and media stakeholders, as the newly elected executives will be expected to address key issues such as improving working conditions, advocating for journalists’ safety, and ensuring professional development opportunities within the industry.
The GJA is expected to officially announce the full results in the coming hours, confirming the new national executive team that will lead the Association.
