In a significant move to support work-life balance and promote early childhood development, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection officially Inaugurated its ‘Child Caregiving Centre‘ on Friday, 30th May 2025.
The centre is specifically designed to provide a nurturing and safe environment for the children of the Ministry’s staff, with a special focus on supporting nursing mothers.
This innovative initiative aims to empower working parents—particularly mothers—to thrive in their careers while ensuring their children receive the care and stimulation they need to grow and develop.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, emphasized the crucial role the Ministry plays in safeguarding the rights and welfare of vulnerable groups, especially children.
She noted that this responsibility extends to the Ministry’s own staff, recognizing them as a vital workforce and a key support base for productivity.
The Sector Minister underscored the importance of early childhood development, highlighting the formative years as essential in laying the foundation for children’s cognitive, physical, and social growth.
Furthermore, Hon. Dr. Naa Momo Lartey reiterated that the initiative reflects the commitment of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to prioritize early childhood care and development by providing nurturing spaces where young children can thrive.
She encouraged staff to make full use of the centre to enhance their working conditions and overall wellbeing.
In her remarks, the Chief Director of MoGCSP, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, described the launch as a strategic effort to support working parents, particularly mothers, by offering a secure and supervised environment for children aged zero to three years.
She stressed that the initiative empowers staff to carry out their duties with peace of mind, knowing their children are in safe hands.
Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, the Australian Ambassador to Ghana, commended the Ministry for the initiative and recommended that the model be adopted as a blueprint by other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The Minister and Chief Director later led guests and members of the media on a guided tour of the facility, offering a firsthand look at the child-friendly centre.
