The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection of Ghana, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has held a bilateral meeting with her Sierra Leonean counterpart, Dr. Isata Mahoi, during the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York.
The discussions focused on establishing mutual cooperation and sharing best practices. Key areas addressed included enforcing the implementation of existing laws, collaborating closely with female parliamentarians, and building the capacity of women to assume leadership positions, including running for elections.
They also deliberated on creating a network of female Ministers of Gender and establishing safe homes and shelters for abused individuals.
The meeting concluded with a pledge from both Ministers to initiate the formation of a network of Gender Ministers within the ECOWAS region.
This initiative aims to collectively address Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by sharing effective practices and working in unison.
