First Ever Volta Festival in Accra.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has given its official endorsement to a new cultural initiative that promises to bring the vibrant traditions of the Volta Region and Eweland to the nation’s capital.

The upcoming festival, dubbed “Experience Volta in Accra,” is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the ELWAK Sports Stadium in Accra.

The event aims to create a grand platform to celebrate the diversity, music, food, fashion, and artistry of the Ewe people, while offering the wider Ghanaian public and international visitors a glimpse into the region’s unique cultural heritage.

Organisers describe the festival as the first of its kind in Accra, spotlighting the full breadth of Ewe traditions on such a large scale.

In a statement released on Monday, September 15, 2025, event organiser Ewevi Multimedia announced that preparations were underway to deliver what is expected to be an unforgettable cultural showcase.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Eric Seyram Agbolosu, Chief Executive Officer of Ewevi Multimedia, explained the motivation behind the project.

“We have many unique cultural festivals in Voltaland like Hogbeza, Teza, Avenortutudoza, Godigbeza, Nugoryiza, and many others that celebrate our diverse heritage. But not every native gets the opportunity to attend or participate. We aim to bring everyone together at one venue, in the capital, to create the same communal spirit those festivals provide,” Mr. Agbolosu said.

He stated further the five pillars that form the core objectives of the upcoming initiative.

According to him, the festival will promote tourism by projecting the Volta Region’s culture, music, and traditions, highlight cultural diversity and build pride in Ewe and Volta heritage.

It would stimulate economic growth by creating opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises, artisans, and young creatives, and foster unity and identity through collaboration among traditional leaders, the diaspora, and cultural stakeholders. And finally, to Position Volta music, arts, and heritage as a central pillar of Ghana’s creative economy.

Though the GTA and organisers said they will announce official activity lineup, they hinted it will feature series events like cultural processions, musical concerts, durbar of paramount chiefs and prominent people from the region and food bursar among others

Some Cultural experts and tourism stakeholders engaged by the GNA describe the GTA’s endorsement as both a cultural milestone and a strategic contribution to Ghana’s tourism economy.

They believe the festival will not only strengthen the identity of Ewe people living outside the Volta Region but also attract thousands of visitors, including members of the diaspora, to Accra during the festive season.

The event will feature a rich line-up of activities, including traditional dance and drumming, Ewe fashion showcases, live music performances, exhibitions of Ewe cuisine and crafts, as well as storytelling sessions that bring to life the history of the region.

Beyond the entertainment, organisers envision the festival as a cultural bridge, connecting generations and reinforcing the Ewe identity within Ghana’s multicultural fabric. It is also expected to cement Accra’s role as a national meeting point for diverse cultural expressions.

Stakeholders further note that such initiatives will reposition the Volta Region as a vibrant tourism hub, while also demonstrating the growing recognition of culture as a catalyst for national development.

“Experience Volta in Accra,” with its unique blend of tradition, commerce, and celebration, is poised to become one of the standout cultural highlights of 2025.
