Ghana National Fire Service and Regional Minister deliberate safeguarding communities in firefighting

The Leadership of the Ghana National Fire Service in Kumasi, led by its Commander, and other Senior Officers have met to discuss the way forward in the recent fire incident at Adum PZ in Kumasi.
The Fire Officials briefed, the Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene on their challenges and constraints, giving an update on the current situation on the fire at Blue Light Market.
The Regional Minister expressed gratitude to the fire fighters for their dedication and collaborative efforts in managing the situation, despite initial challenges.
The Officials of the GNFS also reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the communities.
Dr. Amoakohene assured the officials of his ”continued support”, towards their day-to-day activities.
Key issues discussed:
Among the key issued discussed are the formation of a Taskforce and Rapid Response Unit comprising the Fire Service, Police, and NADMO to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and to create accessible vehicular routes in the PZ area.
The meeting also deliberated on the issue of Personnel Support through the Youth Employment Agency, YEA and National Service Scheme, NSS.
The Regional Minister committed to, ”engaging with headquarters to develop a program that channels personnel from the Youth Employment Agency, YEA and National Service Scheme, NSS into public education, engagement, and operational duties related to fire safety.
Furthermore, the issue of retooling the GNFS logistically to enable them to work more effectively.
According to the Regional Minister, President John Mahama and the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak have given the assurance that the necessary steps would be adopted to provide logistical support to enhance their operations.
”I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Fire Service and all security agencies for their unwavering commitment and hard work in addressing the challenges posed by the Adum PZ fire incident”, the Minister noted.
” Together, we will strengthen our emergency response mechanisms to better protect our communities” Dr. Amoakohene posited.
