The Human Trafficking Secretariat (HTS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection successfully held a comprehensive and capacity-enhancing training session for some selected Ministry’s staff in order to bolster their capabilities to combat human trafficking.
The session, which was organized in collaboration with the law firm Zoe, Akyea & Co., formed part of the Secretariat’s broader strategy to deepen institutional understanding of human trafficking issues.
The training was designed to move beyond general awareness, aiming to equip staff across the Ministry with practical knowledge about the nature, causes, and consequences of human trafficking.
A key focus was the application of the 4Ps framework-Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership to ensure a holistic and coordinated institutional approach to tackling the crime.

Madam Abena Annobea Asare, Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, emphasized the importance of the initiative.
She stated that the training was a vital step in ensuring that the Ministry’s staff are not only aware of the issues but are also empowered with the tools to identify, prevent, and respond to trafficking cases effectively.
Officials from Zoe, Akyea & Co., a firm with recognised expertise in legal matters including human trafficking, delivered technical and legal presentations during the session.
Through interactive presentations and case studies, the session aimed to foster informed decision-making and improve inter-departmental coordination in the fight against modern-day slavery.
They provided participants with deeper insights into the national and international legal frameworks governing human trafficking, the prosecution process, and the rights of victims.
The session also helped strengthen the Ministry’s understanding of how to work more effectively with legal stakeholders in addressing trafficking cases.
