Today, August 15, 2025, Ghana is bidding farewell to six of the eight fallen heroes who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The state funeral is being held at Black Star Square in Accra, with President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and other domestic and international dignitaries in attendance.
The Fallen Heroes are:
– *Dr. Edward Omane Boamah*, Minister of Defence
– *Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed*, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology
– *Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna*, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
– *Dr. Samuel Sarpong*, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
– *Samuel Aboagye*, Deputy Director-General of NADMO
– *Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala*, Ghana Air Force
– *Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu*, Ghana Air Force
– *Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah*, Ghana Air Force
The Government officials were billed for a mining-related assignment at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025, when the tragedy occurred.
Funeral Arrangements
The six heroes being buried today will ride in luxury cars to the Military Cemetery for interment.
*Samuel Aboagye*, *Dr. Edward Omane Boamah*, *Dr. Samuel Sarpong*, and *Sergeant Addo Mensah* will ride in Genesis hearses, while Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu* will ride in a Lincoln Icon and Squadron Leader Peter Anala* will ride in a Cadillac Renaissance.
Tributes and Condolences
There has been a momentous pouring of love and messages in condolences to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the Ghana Military (lost 3 in the Helicopter tragedy), the spouses and families of the victims, as well as the government and entire people of Ghana.
The loss of 8 persons in the Helicopter tragedy at Sikaman-Brofeyedru in the Adansi Akrofrom District of the Ashanti Region has been described as a blow to the country’s leadership and public service, but above all a moment to reignite national consciousness.
