The Women’s Forum of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed commitment to collaborate with Essential Service Providers in the Upper West Region, to support the prosecution of perpetrators of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the area.
The Forum therefore recommended that its wing in the Upper West Regional should be made part of the team of Essential Service Providers in the region, to help strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
Mrs Sheila Minkah-Premo, the President of the GBA Women’s Forum, made this known in Wa during a visit to the Gyinsung Shelter for survivors of SGBV to, among other things, assess the operations of the facility.
A statement issued by Madam Charity Batuure, the Upper West Regional Director of the Department of Gender, said the visit formed part of the Forum’s scheduled activities of the GBA Annual Conference held in Wa in September 2025.
The team from the GBA Women’s Forum, led by its President, also engaged members of the Essential Service Providers, the committee currently managing the Gyinsung Shelter for Survivors of SGBV in the region, on the management of survivors in general and at the Shelter in particular.
The statement said the engagement also provided an opportunity for the team to discuss how the Essential Service Providers managed SGBV cases in the region, their initiatives and achievements within the year, as well as challenges encountered in running the Shelter.
The Forum expressed happiness about the management of the Shelter and appreciated the Essential Service Providers for their efforts in fighting SGBV and promoting gender equality and equity within the region.
The statement indicated that the Forum also donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Essential Service Providers, to support the management of the Shelter.
Madam Batuure thanked the GBA Women’s Forum for the visit and their support, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to securing justice for survivors of abuse.
She said the engagement served as a valuable opportunity to help address some of the challenges being faced by the Department and other Social Service Providers in seeking justice for SGBV survivors.
Madam Batuure expressed hope that the visit would strengthen collaboration to ensure fairness and justice for all, including SGBV survivors.
