Florian Lipowitz (r.) from Germany has been injured in a crash but is continuing the Tour of Germany for the time being.

Tour de France third-place finisher Florian Lipowitz continued the Tour of Germany on Saturday despite being hurt in a crash the previous day.

“I have some injuries, but so far it’s okay. We’ll have to see how it feels during the race. In any case, I’m happy to be at the start,’ said Lipowitz ahead of the third and penultimate stage over 175.7 kilometres from Arnsberg to Kassel.

Lipowitz crashed on Friday when he hit a power box next to the road in evasive action after a rider fell ahead of him.

He said he hurt his right hand, and suffered shoulder and collarbone bruises, and that there had been discussions within his Red Bull team whether he should continue the race which ends on Sunday in Magdeburg.

“In the end health comes first, and safety. I must see how it goes when braking,” Lipowitz said.

Lipowitz is not a contender for the overall win as he crossed the line eight minutes behind the winner after his mishap.
