The Ministry of Finance has reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustaining Ghana’s economic recovery and ensuring that growth translates into jobs, investment and improved livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson at the launch of the World Bank’s 10th Ghana Economic Update at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on August 26, 2026, Coordinating Director (Technical) Samuel Danquah Arkhust said government takes the report’s findings and recommendations seriously.

He said Ghana’s “Resetting for Growth” agenda aligns with the World Bank’s assessment, noting that inflation had fallen to 4.6 percent in July 2026, real GDP grew by 6.4 percent in Q1 2026, and reserves now cover more than five months of imports. He added that Ghana’s debt-risk rating had also been upgraded to moderate under the IMF’s Debt Sustainability Analysis.
Mr. Arkhust, however, stressed that “stability is a foundation, not a destination,” saying economic growth must create jobs and reach communities that need it most.
He highlighted the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme, including the six lane Accra-Kumasi Expressway, two bridges over the Afram River and the Danbai Bridge along the Eastern Corridor. He also stressed the need for sustainable road-maintenance financing.
He said almost US$500 million in World Bank financing would support the rehabilitation of nearly 1,000 kilometres of feeder roads across four major agricultural corridors and 16 regions. The programme is expected to cut travel times by up to 40 percent, reduce transport costs and post-harvest losses, and create about 25,000 direct and indirect jobs, including at least 7,500 for women.
He called for disciplined implementation and sustained partnerships to turn Ghana’s economic recovery into tangible progress for citizens, while expressing government’s appreciation to the World Bank for its continued support.
