The Electoral Commission, EC, has slated Tuesday, 2nd September, for a By-Election in the Akwatia Constituency, following the unfortunate passing of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Ernest Kumi.
This it says is in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended by the Electoral Commission, EC. The EC in a statement signed by the Chairperson, Jean Mensa, said it will begin receiving nominations from 11th to 13th August 2025, at the Demkyembour (d3n-ky33m-buor) District Office of the Commission.
It asks interested candidates to download nomination forms from the Commission’s website from 30th July to 13th August 2025. The statement says the nomination forms must be witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as Proposer and Seconder and supported by eighteen other registered voters in the Constituency as assenting to the Nominations. The Forms should also be endorsed with the Candidate’s consent to the Nomination.
The statement further directs that candidates submitting completed nomination Forms should provide two copies of a recent bust sized photograph against a red background, showing full face and ears. It says the filing (file-in) fee for the election is Ten Thousand Cedis, however, the filing fee for female candidates and Persons with Disabilities is Seven Thousand Five Hundred Cedis. It says all completed nomination forms are to be submitted in quadruplicate (quad-rup-licate).
