The ECOWAS Commission is hosting a High-Level Governmental Experts’ Validation Meeting from 16 to 17 July 2025 in Abuja to endorse the new Training Policy for Peace Support Operations. The initiative aims to transform the ECOWAS Standby Force into a mission-ready mechanism capable of rapid, coordinated responses to security challenges in the region.
The two-day meeting brings together experts from Member States, ECOWAS technical directorates, and key partners — including the European Union, BMZ, GIZ, Expertise France, and AECID. The policy outlines a unified framework for training military, police, and civilian components, grounded in human rights, gender inclusion, and conflict prevention.
Anchored in ECOWAS Vision 2050, the initiative reinforces the Commission’s commitment to building a peaceful, secure, and resilient West Africa. It also reflects the growing alignment between regional priorities and international cooperation in peace and security.
