The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, through its Directorate of Communication, is organising a two-day training programme for journalists, from 26 to 27 January 2026, in the city of Praia, Cabo Verde, dedicated to the promotion of information integrity and the fight against disinformation in West Africa.

The training, which is being held in a context marked by growing challenges to democracy, peace and regional stability, was officially launched by Mrs. Kelly Lopes, Acting Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, and Isa Morais Rodrigues, Coordinator of the ECOWAS National Cell in Cabo Verde.

Through this activity, implemented in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Media Foundation for West Africa, ECOWAS aims to strengthen the technical and ethical capacities of media professionals, promote rigorous fact-checking, encourage the responsible use of digital tools, and consolidate the role of the media as strategic actors in democracy, peace and regional integration.
