Ebi Bright nominated as MCE for Tema Metropolis

Ebi Bright, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, has been nominated as the new Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

The announcement was made by the Office of the President through the Ministry of Government Communications, led by Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

A prominent figure known for her dual career as an actress and politician, Ebi Bright first entered the political arena in 2016, when she contested the Tema Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC. Although she did not win the seat at the time, she remained a consistent presence in the constituency’s political landscape.

In the most recent 2024 general elections, Ebi Bright once again contested the Tema Central seat, this time emerging as the initial victor. However, her win was later overturned by a court ruling in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, citing irregularities in the election process. The decision led to disappointment among her supporters but did little to diminish her popularity and influence in the constituency.

Her nomination as MCE comes at a crucial time for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, as the region seeks to accelerate development and improve local governance. While her supporters praise her dedication to public service and community development, critics have raised concerns over the selection process, citing a lack of consultation and transparency.

Ebi Bright’s experience—both in public life and as a parliamentary candidate—positions her well to handle the administrative and political demands of the office.

If confirmed, Ebi Bright is expected to focus on improving local infrastructure, youth empowerment, and sanitation—key concerns for residents of the Tema Metropolis.
