The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has commenced the 99th cycle of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash grant payments, with nationwide disbursement beginning on Monday, 22nd December 2025.
The announcement was made at a press briefing addressed by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who disclosed that Government has released GH¢139,329,463.37 for the current payment cycle. The funds will benefit about 350,580 households, representing approximately 1.5 million Ghanaians.

She described LEAP as a flagship social protection intervention and a key pillar of Government’s Reset Agenda, aimed at improving the livelihoods of extremely poor and vulnerable households. She further explained that the bi-monthly cash grants, structured according to household size, range from GH¢320 to GH¢530, and noted that the timely release of funds, particularly during the festive season, is intended to help beneficiary households meet basic needs.
The Minister also announced that the Ministry of Finance has allocated GH¢1.1 billion to the LEAP Programme, the highest allocation since the programme’s inception. She added that LEAP coverage will be expanded to 400,000 households in 2026, and called on traditional authorities, faith-based organisations, civil society groups and development partners to support the sustainability of the programme.
She commended Ministry staff, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the MMDA level, Community Focal Persons, payment service providers, development partners and Members of Parliament for their continued support, and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of poor and vulnerable households nationwide.
