The Constitution Review Committee held its eighth zonal public engagement last Thursday, July 24, in Takoradi, at the beautiful Western Serene Atlantic Hotel. The live-streamed event, moderated by radio journalist Kwame Malcolm, drew participants from across the Western and Western North Regions. The Regional Minister, Chiefs and Queenmothers, educationists, MMDCEs and Assembly Members, advocates representing persons living with disabilities, legal practitioners, journalists, retirees, clergy, traders and small business owners, public servants, and students were among the diverse participants at the forum. The incisive contributions and robust exchanges, among the liveliest I have experienced so far, spanned the gamut, from national to regional and local governance and developmental concerns, touching diverse sectors.
The Committee concludes its zonal public engagements this week with sessions in Sunyani and Kumasi. The public engagement in Sunyani takes place today, Tuesday, July 29, at the Eusbett International Conference Centre, Yaa Twenewaa Hall, Eusbett Hotel, starting at 9:00 a.m. The Committee will hold its Kumasi public engagement on Friday, August 1, at the Longford Royal Event Centre. (More popular local venues, specifically Prempeh Assembly Hall and GNAT Hall, are unavailable due to venue-related reasons). As usual, both the Sunyani and Kumasi engagements will be live-streamed. An engagement with the National House of Chiefs is scheduled for Thursday, July 31st.
