The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako has withdrawn his application praying for an order of the High Court to review the bail conditions imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently on a 50 million cedis police enquiry bail, granted to him by EOCO last Wednesday after he was detained by its officials. Chairman Wontumi filed the application for variation of the bail terms based on the grounds outlined in the accompanying affidavit. The said application was to he heard tomorrow June 3. Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai in a social post said the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP is also under a second strand of investigation which is part of a lager international organised crime scheme.
He said EOCO is assiduously working with international law enforcement partners on the second strand of criminal investigations. Lawyer for Chairman Wontumi,
Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, said his client was interrogated by the anti-graft agency, on charges of causing financial loss to the state. Prior to his detention at EOCO, Chairman Wontumi was invited by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to help with ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.
Chairman’s Wontumi’s arrest, which triggered reactions from the NPP party saw supporters, including party executives protest at the EOCO premises for his release.
