The Accra Circuit Court has remanded Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, into police custody after he was arraigned on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Mr. Baffoe, a prominent political figure and former regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), appeared before the court following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service. The police, however, did not disclose details of the charges in open court, saying investigations are still ongoing.
The presiding judge, after hearing the brief submission from prosecutors, ordered that Abronye be kept in police custody and reappear on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Court officials indicated that the decision was to allow investigators enough time to conclude their work before the next hearing.
Mr. Baffoe, well known in political circles for his outspoken and often controversial statements, has over the years been a regular feature in public debates. His style of commentary has attracted both admiration from his supporters and sharp criticism from his opponents.
News of his remand quickly spread across social and traditional media, drawing mixed reactions. While some supporters insist that the case is politically motivated, others argue that the development demonstrates the importance of accountability and respect for the law, regardless of social or political standing.
The Ghana Police Service, in a brief statement, confirmed that Mr. Baffoe is assisting in ongoing investigations. The Service also assured the public that due process will be followed as the case proceeds.
Abronye is expected back in court on Friday, September 12, 2025, where the prosecution is likely to present more details regarding the charges against him.
