Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawling writes:
On this International Women’s Day, we honour the extraordinary power of women: the power to nurture life, shape communities, and move nations forward.
Today, I honour the legacy of my mother, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of blessed memory – a proud and remarkable Ghanaian woman whose life’s work continues to leave an indelible mark on our country.
Guided by deep conviction and compassion, her activism, advocacy, and relentless fundraising efforts played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Radiotherapy Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, bringing hope and lifesaving treatment to countless Ghanaians facing cancer.
Her legacy is also firmly woven into our laws through the Interstate Succession Bill, which helped secure justice, dignity, and protection for widows and children across Ghana.
Her vision extended far beyond legislation and institutions. She journeyed into some of the most remote villages in our country, empowering women to discover their own strength and potential. Through the establishment of processing factories and support for women-led enterprises, she helped many women build sustainable livelihoods and transform their communities.
My mother believed deeply in the wisdom and influence of traditional leadership, working to empower queenmothers and recognising their essential role as custodians of community welfare and advocates for women.
Her life reminds us that it takes a woman, a determined, visionary woman, to nurture, to defend justice, to build, and to uplift generations.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, may her example inspire both women and men to continue supporting and uplifting women everywhere. When women rise, families flourish, communities strengthen, and nations prosper.
Happy International Women’s Day to every woman in Ghana and beyond.
