Vice President Professor Opoku Agyemang represents Ghana as 7th European Union-African Union Summit opens in Luanda, Angola

 African Union and European Union Leaders are convening on November 24 and 25, in Angola for the AU-EU Summit, in a move to explore concrete ways at accelerating progress in peace and security, economic integration, trade investment, among other human development issues. Ghana’s Vice-President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will represent President John Dramani Mahama at the 7th European Union–African Union Summit in Luanda for the next two days.

The Vice President is expected to present a paper reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to fair and forward-looking partnerships between Africa and Europe.

The 7th AU–EU Summit is taking place today and tomorrow in Luanda, Republic of Angola, bringing together Heads of State and Government from African Union Member States and European Union Member States to reaffirm their long-standing partnership and chart a renewed path of cooperation.

The Summit will be co-chaired by H.E. João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and

Chairperson of the African Union, and H.E. António Costa,

President of the European Council. H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and H.E. Ursula von der Leyen,

The President of the European Commission will be in attendance.

THE 7th AU-EU Summit is taking place at a time of profound global uncertainties and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the Summit offers an opportunity for both continents to reaffirm their shared commitment to multilateralism, solidarity,

and joint action to address common challenges.

It marks the 25th Anniversary of the AU–EU Partnership and coincides with Angola’s Presidency of the African Union underscoring Africa’s growing leadership in defining global objectives.

Discussions will focus on advancing joint priorities within the framework of Agenda 2063 The Africa We Want, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the AU–EU Joint Vision for 2030.

The leaders will explore concrete ways to accelerate progress in areas such as peace and security, climate resilience, digital transformation, migration and mobility, amongst other critical issues.

The gathering will build on the outcomes of the 3 rd AU–EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels in May this year, during which ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a partnership rooted in shared values, mutual interests, and collective aspirations for sustainable development and stability.

 A series of key side events preceded the Summit, ensuring broad-based participation and inclusive dialogue.

Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang will be speaking on behalf of President Mahama. She is expected to push for a more inclusive and representative global governance system, and outline Ghana’s key priorities in economic stability, job creation, food security, climate action, peace and security, and value-chain transformation, especially in agriculture and cocoa.

The Vice President will also highlight Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery and structural reforms, including the 24-Hour Economy initiative, efforts to increase local cocoa processing, major infrastructure expansion under the Big Push Initiative, improved agricultural financing, and the empowerment of women through the Women’s Development Bank.
