Accra–Kumasi highway
By Vivian Amoah
Vehicular movement on the Accra–Kumasi highway has been severely disrupted following the collapse of a bridge near Anyinam in the Eastern Region.
Dozens of vehicles travelling between Accra, Nkawkaw, and Kumasi were forced to halt or divert through alternative routes, resulting in heavy traffic congestion along adjoining roads. Long-distance drivers and passengers were left stranded for hours as officials worked to assess the extent of the damage.

The collapse has also sparked concern among commuters and transport operators, as the Accra–Kumasi highway remains one of Ghana’s busiest trade and transport corridors, linking the southern and northern parts of the country.
Emergency teams are currently on site assessing the structural integrity of nearby sections to prevent further accidents. Authorities have advised travelers to use alternative routes through Koforidua or Suhum until the bridge is repaired.
