The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has declared his readiness to contest for the National Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but only if the current Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, decides not to seek re-election.
Speaking on Face to Face on Tuesday, Mr. Vanderpuye explained that his decision to join the race would depend entirely on the next political move of Mr. Asiedu Nketia, whom he described as a “very good brother.”
“If the current Chairman, my very good brother Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is not contesting, I will contest,” he stated.
Mr. Vanderpuye, a long-serving member of the NDC, said his interest in the position is motivated by his desire to help strengthen the party’s internal structures and promote unity among its members ahead of the next general elections.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, was elected National Chairman of the NDC in 2022 after serving as the party’s General Secretary for 17 years. It remains unclear whether he intends to seek another term when the party opens nominations for its next national executive elections.
