By Scores of workers at Prudential Bank Ghana Limited on Wednesday staged a protest at the bank’s head office in Accra over what they described as “unfair management decisions” regarding salary adjustments and fuel allowance allocations.
The aggrieved staff, clad in red armbands and headbands, chanted solidarity songs and carried placards with inscriptions such as “Equal work, equal pay,” “Stop selective salary hikes,” and “We deserve fair treatment.”
According to the protestors, management recently approved salary increases and fuel allowances for selected senior officers while neglecting junior and mid-level staff. They described the move as discriminatory and demoralizing.
“We are not against rewarding performance, but the process must be transparent and fair to everyone. Many of us have worked here for over five years, yet our pay remains stagnant while others enjoy special benefits,” one staff member, who preferred anonymity, told reporters.
Meanwhile, some union representatives confirmed that they had engaged management on several occasions over the issue, but their concerns were yet to be addressed.
“The last meeting ended without any clear commitment from management. Our members are frustrated, and this demonstration is to draw attention to their plight,” said one union leader.
Attempts to get an official response from Prudential Bank management proved unsuccessful, as calls and emails to the Human Resource Department went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
The workers have vowed to continue their protest until management initiates a dialogue and ensures equity in remuneration and benefits distribution.
