President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Dwumfour, has announced that the 29th GJA Media Awards will, for the first time in the Association’s history, be hosted in Kumasi under the patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
Speaking at the official launch and inauguration of the Awards Committee at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, today 9th October 2025. Mr. Dwumfour described the decision as a landmark move aimed at promoting inclusivity and giving national visibility to journalists across the regions.
He said hosting the event at the Manhyia Palace on November 8, 2025, symbolizes “a convergence of tradition, wisdom, and professionalism,” reflecting the Association’s commitment to celebrating journalism beyond the capital. The awards, he added, will be held under the theme “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security, and the Fight Against Galamsey.”
Mr. Dwumfour noted that the theme mirrors Ghana’s current challenges of environmental degradation, misinformation, and threats to peace and security, calling on journalists to “rise firmly, fearless, and fair as custodians of truth and conscience.”
Outlining the Kumasi event program, he revealed that the awards weekend would include a welcome reception at the Lancaster Hotel, a health walk, and a royal dinner hosted by the Asantehene. He added that the GJA would provide transportation, accommodation, and logistics for journalists traveling from other regions.
He also expressed appreciation to sponsors and partners, including KGL Group and Alisa Hotel, for their continuous support of the Association’s activities.
Mr. Dwumfour described the upcoming awards as more than a ceremony, calling it “an experience that celebrates the craft, unity, and democratic contribution of Ghanaian journalists.” Long live His Majesty Otumfuo Long live Ghana, Long live the GJA
