Today, September 27 is World Tourism Day. It is a day chosen by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1980 to highlight the sector’s contribution to the development of countries globally. The theme for this year’s celebration is ” Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”. It will be used to deliberate on the sector’s role to driving sustainable and inclusive economies whilst advocating for collaboration on transformative programmes that will create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. In Ghana, tourism is the fourth income earner.
It is however beset with challenges. Despite the interventions put in place by the government to improve the tourism sector and help boost Ghana’s economy, there is more room for improvement.
