Ghana’s Gender Minister in Brazil for Summit on School Meals Coalition

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey led Ghana’s Delegation to Brazil to attend the 2nd Global Summit on School Meals Coalition.
The Minister showcased the good work the Government of Ghana is doing in the area of school feeding, by providing hot and nutritious meals to children in Government schools with the following objectives:
1) to address malnutrition and boost immunity and wellbeing of the children thereby reducing diseases and promote their growth
2) increase enrolment, attendance and retention
3) source for locally produced foods and create market for farmers
4) provide jobs for caterers and cooks.
She stated how the programme is providing meals for over 4.2 million children in 12,000 basic schools.
She also served as a panelist and brilliantly delivered on how research has directly impacted on the establishment of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and thanked the Moderator, Prof Bundy for his contribution in being part of Ghana’s initial research  that informed decision makers, leading to Ghana’s heavy investment in the lives of School Children in Ghana through the Ghana School Feeding Programme and other Social Interventions.
She also shared plans on the way forward and some actionable steps to improve the programme.
The Minister and her delegation also had bilateral meetings with the delegations from Finland and Ethiopia.
