The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is pushing for an end to the renewal of mining leases for foreign companies, insisting that such leases must be transitioned to Ghanaian ownership. While welcoming the government’s recent decision to cut lease durations from 30 to 15 years, IEA however expressed disappointment that three foreign-owned firms, have their leases renewed without a clear roadmap for a Ghanaian takeover.
Senior fellow of the IEA, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, speaking at a forum in Accra, was unhappy that Ghana is yet to have meaningful economic transformation of its natural resources.
