Ghana celebrates 35 years of promoting social justice.
On Thursday 21st August 2025, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, joined ActionAid Ghana to mark its 35th Anniversary, celebrating more than three decades of impactful work in advancing social justice, gender equality, and poverty reduction in Ghana.
Since its establishment, ActionAid Ghana has grown into a leading force in amplifying the voices of vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls, while driving systemic change to tackle poverty and inequality.
The celebration, themed “35 Years of Promoting Social Justice,” brought together development partners, government representatives, civil society organisations, and community leaders to reflect on achievements, share lessons, and reaffirm commitments to building a just and inclusive society.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey emphasized that gender equality and social justice go beyond parity, underscoring the need for broad-based opportunities and systems that empower all citizens.
She highlighted government’s commitment, through the Ministry, to expanding and improving social protection programmes such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) and the School Feeding Programme.
She further outlined ongoing reforms, including the full implementation of the Affirmative Action Act, the passage of legislative instruments for the protection of individuals accused of witchcraft, frameworks for child protection and family reintegration, stronger measures against trafficking and missing children, and the passage of the Persons with Disabilities Amendment Bill.
Commending ActionAid Ghana’s longstanding advocacy, the Minister noted the organisation’s instrumental role in promoting legislative change, advancing women’s rights, driving critical labour reforms, and restoring dignity to vulnerable women.
She reaffirmed government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with ActionAid Ghana in shaping a society that values and supports the contributions of all individuals.
“As we celebrate this historic moment, let us reaffirm our pledge to work together towards a more just and equitable society for all Ghanaians,” she said. “Together, we will sustain our progress and accelerate it, ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind.”
