Rebecca Ekpe elected GJA Vice President in keenly contested election.

Rebecca Ekpe, former Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has been elected as the new Vice President of the Association. The election results were declared after a closely contested poll, marking a significant step in the GJA’s leadership renewal process.
Rebecca Ekpe secured 414 votes representing 60.35% to beat her opponent, Mary Mensah who got only 272 votes representing 39.65%.
Ekpe, who has served in various capacities within the Association, expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work collaboratively to advance the welfare of journalists in Ghana. She emphasized her commitment to promoting press freedom, capacity building, and the professional development of young journalists across the country.
The election, which saw a high turnout of journalists nationwide, also forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the structures of the Association ahead of its upcoming programmes and advocacy initiatives. Members have welcomed her victory, describing it as a positive move that will bring renewed energy into the Association’s leadership.
Rebecca Ekpe is expected to officially assume her role in the coming days as she joins the new leadership team to chart the next phase of the GJA’s operations.
REBECCA EKPE’s PROFILE

Rebecca Ekpe is an Editor-in- Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Journalists Association.

She is a journalist with specialty and interest in Women and Gender issues, politics, elections, democracy, youth and citizen’s engagement.

With decades of Journalism experience in writing articles, stories, researching, studying, and working on advocacy projects, Rebecca Ekpe has transitioned from storytelling to providing solutions and impacting lives in decision making on issues in Journalism, education, training and policy decisions.

Her goal is to promote inclusive societies and ensure that democracy, and for that matter, freedom of speech thrives.

During Ghana’s 2016 Presidential Election, Rebecca worked as a Media Analyst, closely with the Women’s Situation Room-(WSR) -a UNDP funded project and a peacebuilding mechanism, supporting Women’s Voices.

She has also taken up responsibilities in Elections in 2012, 2020 and 2024 supporting communication, information dissemination and peace building in Ghana.

Rebecca has served as Head/Editor-in- Chief of GBC Online News Platform, tasked with the responsibility of revitalizing content, working with a team that focuses on digital content, audience engagement and reach.

Multiple GJA Award Winner. Received recognitions as an award-winning broadcast journalist with honors in human rights reporting and public service journalism.

A strong advocate for media freedom, ethics, accountability and leadership inclusion consistently engages in public lectures and forums that influence national media development. Her career reflects dedication, excellence and a commitment to uplifting journalism standards in Ghana.
