The Ministry of Education has added 25 private senior high schools (SHS) to the 2025 school selection process under the Free SHS programme. This marks the first time private SHSs have been included in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), giving candidates more options as they prepare to enter second-cycle education.
The approved schools, listed under Category E, are co-educational day institutions located across all 16 regions. They offer a range of academic programmes including General Arts, General Science, Business, Technical, Visual Arts, Home Economics, and Agriculture. In view of the new additions, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the deadline for the school selection process to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
In a statement signed by Mr. Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division, the GES said the extension had become necessary to allow candidates more time to make informed choices.
The schools will be available on the school selection forms for the 2025/2026 academic year and may be selected by candidates under the new Category E classification. According to the Ministry of Education, the inclusion of these schools is expected to expand access to second-cycle education and reduce pressure on public SHSs.
