The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has been speaking as the High-Level Conference on Ghana’s Anti-Corruption Architecture in Accra.
In her remarks, she spoke about Ghana’s inclusive approach to the fight against corruption, an effort that has been supported over the years by investigative journalism, active civil society engagement, and institutional oversight. While these efforts are commendable,
”I acknowledged that much more remains to be done, as reports and statistics reveal the troubling extent of financial losses due to corruption. The situation is dire and certainly not one we should take lightly”, she indicated.
Prof Opoku Agyemang reiterated the firm commitment of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to confront this national challenge head-on, through bold and actionable measures such as the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, the Code of Conduct for government appointees, the review of the 1992 Constitution, and the appointment of a Presidential Advisor on the National Anti-Corruption Programme.
She emphasized that the fight against corruption is not just about systems; it is a deliberate choice to demand better from ourselves and from those we entrust with power.
”It is about building the kind of Ghana and Africa that our children deserve.”, the Vice President articulated.
She believes that fighting corruption is a journey ”we must continue, and one we must walk together. with courage, accountability, and collective resolve, we will succeed”. she noted.
