In an exciting moment, Switzerland and Ghana marked another significant milestone in our longstanding partnership as we officially unveiled the new Switzerland-Ghana Cooperation Programme 2025–2028, implemented through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
The new Country Programme reaffirms Switzerland’s commitment to supporting a more resilient and forward-looking Ghanaian economy. It focuses on three key areas:
• Improving Local Governance and Decentralization
• Supporting Private Sector Support to create Jobs and Income Opportunities
• Enhancing Environmental Integrity
At the event, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, highlighted how the new Cooperation Programme aligns with Ghana’s Medium-Term Development plans and priorities and thanked the Swiss Government for its unwavering commitment and support to Ghana’s development goals.
Swiss Ambassador Ms. Simone Giger emphasized how the new Cooperation Programme reflects Switzerland’s belief in Ghana’s potential to lead the way to a more sustainable and diversified economy.
The launch event also featured a lively panel discussion moderated by Ms. Jacquline Ankrah with the panelist comprising of Mr. Samuel Seth Passah, a director at the Ministry for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Prof. Godfred Bokpin, an Economist Professor at the University of Ghana and Ms. Astrid Kohl, Director for the PAIReD program at GIZ. The panelists shared partnership experiences and success stories of SECO’s past programs and ways to be more efficient with resources and scale up successful practices.
