Transport fares to drop by 15 percent

Transport fares are set to decrease by 15 percent beginning tomorrow, following successful negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport. The new fares cover shared taxis, intracity (tro-tro), intercity (long distance), and haulage.

The adjustment reflects recent macroeconomic improvements, including the sustained appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar, which has contributed to a significant drop in fuel prices.

This development also follows a directive from the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, urging its members to reduce auto parts prices in response to the improved exchange rate.

A statement by the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the TUC, Godfred Abulbire, and General Secretary of Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, said the reduction is in line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares.

It urged all commercial transport operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals. It also appealed to all operators, commuters, and the public to cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.
